TRADITIONAL MEDICINE

PREGNANCY MONITORING, ATTENTION AT BIRTH, POST BIRTH:

During pregnancy: the midwife will revise the women several times. She will recommend natural medicine for her health. She will verify the child's position and possible complications at birth. She will carry out "cleanings" if necessary. She will contribute to the normal growth of pregnancy state.

At birth: the midwife will prepare a medicine to alleviate the woman's pains and to help her. When the child is born, they will play the flute in order to receive the new born baby with a joyful melody; baskets will also be prepared with objects according to the sex of the child.

After birth: the midwife will visit the women and her child to control their health and food. She will recommend maternal milk and some natural medicines to strengthen the milk and, others to be used as vaccines.

PLANTS CULTURES and LIVING PHARMACIES:

At the House for Life each midwife has its chakra (land space) to seed medicinal plants according to the tradition. The flora diversity of the Ecuadorian Amazone is influenced by a range of elements for its growth.

The variety of atmospheres, habitats, biotic factors, physical conditions, quemical and topographic conditions are some of the elements that midwives take into account when seeding plants.

At the moment, the midwives study with the aim to offer a range of natural medicine concretised into pills, syrup or creams. The service is called Living Pharmacies and soon it will be available for the public in general.
